The Victoria Chinese Golf Club (VCGC or Club) is a non-profit association whose purpose is to further the game of golf, promote good fellowship, and to foster friendship among its members. The year 2023 marks the 66th anniversary of the Club. Membership is open to men and women who enjoy the game of golf.

The VCGC began in 1957 when several avid golfers played together periodically at the Gorge Vale Golf Course. Those golfers included Doug Lowe, Pete Leung, Jack Lee, John Joe, Dave Yuen, Wally Lowe, Ed Lum, Herb Quan, and Eric Joe. As the group grew, tournaments were organized at the Gorge Vale course and then grew to include other golf courses on southern Vancouver Island.

The VCGC does not have a home course but does schedule monthly golf outings mostly on public courses within the Lower Vancouver Island area. These events traditionally fall on a Sunday and comprise of eight 18-hole events each year usually starting in April and wrapping up with the last event in October. Some years offer weekday 9 & Dine events as well, although the interest in these events is beginning to wane.

In addition to golfing events, members can look forward to social functions that include a start-up mixer and a year-end dinner held in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting. Informal post-golf dinner get-togethers are also held for those who wish to participate. One unique tradition of being a VCGC member is that if a member in good standing has the good fortune of shooting a verified hole in one during a VCGC event all current members are treated to a dinner.

The Club also sponsors a Labour Day Weekend Invitational tournament known as the Inter-City Tournament every fourth year on a rotational basis with associate clubs from Seattle, Vancouver, and Portland. The VCGC hosted very successful tournaments in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018 with participants coming from as far away as Hawaii, Arizona, and California. Due to restrictions from the pandemic, we should be hosting again in 2025.

Membership in the VCGC includes affiliate membership in the Association of International Golf Clubs whose membership gives access to out-of-town Association sponsored tournaments events. The Association has two tentatively sponsored tournaments this year including the InterCity. For more detailed information, visit the Association’s website.
